WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today attended the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting and Business Summit where she participated in several events with business and community leaders.

First, Senator Capito addressed the entire business summit, providing an update on the latest from the U.S. Senate, as well as her continued work to spur economic development in West Virginia.

“The future of West Virginia depends on our ability to foster a pro-business, pro-growth environment in our communities,” Senator Capito said. “The Chamber’s theme of ‘Leaders Taking Action’ is truly a fitting one, as their members have taken action in more ways than one to help expand economic development in West Virginia and improve the business climate here. While West Virginia has experienced some major economic wins, we need to make sure that we keep the focus to continue this positive economic momentum. I look forward to keeping up our efforts to do just that to make West Virginia the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”

“This is the biggest year yet for the Annual Meeting & Business Summit. That is a testament to the leadership in our state and the strides we’ve made to make West Virginia the best place to live, work and raise a family. I am very thankful to our remarkable slate of speakers this year that share their time and enterprise with our members. I have never been more encouraged for the future of our state,” Steve Roberts, President of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, said.

Senator Capito also participated in a working lunch hosted by Marshall University President Brad Smith, which focused on rural health development and the linkage between community health and economic prosperity.

“From our larger hospitals to our smaller health clinics, our medical institutions and professionals play a key role in providing essential medical services to the people of our state. That is especially true for our facilities in rural areas, which are often the only resource available for residents of our small communities,” Senator Capito said. “In order for our rural communities to be successful, access to reliable health resources must be available. I’m glad that President Smith is taking initiative once again and encouraging conversations like this one so we can work toward developing innovative solutions that will help move us in the right direction.”
