After defeating the 80th-ranked player Monday in Danka Kovinic, Serena Williams had a tougher challenge in second-ranked Anett Kontaveit — and so far Williams has been up to the challenge.
Despite playing in just four matches this year, and in total, going back to last year’s Wimbledon tournament, the 40-year-old star is tied at 3-3 in the first set with her 26-year-old foe. Through six games, Williams has 18 total points won to 19 for Kontaveit, and the American leads in aces, 3-1.
