Forest fires have continued to ravage southwest Europe. With a heatwave that has shown no sign of abating, firefighters are battling to contain wildfires. France has been hit especially hard and the Gironde region in southwestern France has seen 6,200 hectares torched since the fire began. Overall, more than 57,200 hectares of area has been blazed in France this year due to numerous wildfires.
